The University of the Western Cape (UWC) in South Africa has officially opened registration for the 2026 academic year for both new and returning students. This period marks a key step for students who have received admission offers and are preparing to begin or continue their studies at this respected institution.
Important Registration Dates (First Semester 2026)
UWC has set clear deadlines for registration:
-
Online registration opens: 09 January 2026
-
New and first-time entry students: 09 January – 30 January 2026
-
Returning undergraduates, Honours, and PG diploma/certificate students: 09 January – 06 February 2026
-
PhD and Master’s students (new & returning): From 09 January 2026
-
First semester begins: Monday, 09 February 2026 — the academic year officially starts on this date.
Registration must be completed within these periods — late registration is generally not allowed unless special permission is obtained from the relevant Faculty.
How to Register
UWC encourages students to register online for convenience and safety: Visit UWC online registration page
-
Log in to the UWC Student Portal using:
-
Your student number
-
Your South African ID or passport number
-
-
Follow the online registration steps provided in the portal menus.
-
If you’re unsure about module selection or study planning, you can access Curriculum Advising through the portal or contact your Faculty for assistance.
Students can choose self-registration online, or, where available, attend assisted registration sessions on campus with staff support — particularly useful for first-year or new students.
What You Need Before Registration
Before you complete your registration, UWC requires the following:
-
Admission confirmation (an official offer from UWC)
-
Promotion or academic clearance (for returning students)
-
Proof of bursary or funding if applicable (to be uploaded via the Student Credit Management Portal)
-
Valid identification matched to your student records
Ensure all documents are ready and submitted before or during registration — incomplete documentation can delay or block your ability to register for the academic year.
Orientation and Campus Support
For new first-year students, UWC runs an Orientation Programme before academic classes begin. This includes welcome sessions by the Rector and Faculty introductions designed to help new students settle into university life, understand university systems, and meet peers and staff.
